Essential Wholesale carries an ingredient called Triethanolamine (TEA), which can be used in a varity of products. This week I showed you how to use it in my Kitchen Chemistry video. I thought I would give you a little more info on this ingredient. Enjoy!
Triethanolamine (TEA) is a clear, viscous liquid used to reduce the surface tension in emulsions. This allows the water-soluble and oil-soluble ingredients in a formula to blend better. It is a strong base, which makes it useful in adjusting the pH of a cosmetic formula. TEA is completely soluble in water and is rapidly biodegradable.
TEA neutralizes fatty acids and solubilizes oils and other ingredients that are not completely soluble in water. TEA combines the properties of both amines and alcohols and can undergo reactions common to both groups. As an amine, TEA reacts with acids because it is mildly alkaline, and forms soaps. When TEA acts as an alcohol it is hygroscopic and can cause the esterification of free fatty acids.

In my first article on health and fitness I gave an introduction to the two most important aspects of health; diet and exercise. In my last post, I delved into the “why” part of diet; now I will discuss the “what.” By this point in the health and fitness section of the blog, I hope that readers might be thinking something along the lines of “Ok, so I understand the importance of my diet, but what fuel do I actually need?” This is actually a very complex question, and a truly thorough answer would fill volumes. Instead, this article is intended to give the reader an overview of diet. So… here we go!
As is probably known, energy is measured in “calories.” One calorie is defined as the amount of energy it takes to heat one gram of water one degree Celsius. A “food calorie” or “Calorie” (with a capital C) is what is found on nutrition facts labels, and is actually one thousand lower-case-c “calories.” For the rest of the article, any reference to “calories” is referring to “food calories.” In order to achieve weight and fitness goals, calorie consumption is where it all starts. If the body takes in more calories (energy) than it expends, then the body will deposit that excess somewhere (whether that be in the form of fat or muscle will be discussed later.) If the body expends more energy than it is consuming, it will begin to feed on stores of energy in the body, and weight loss will occur.

Pricing Your Product – Retailing vs. Wholesaling
Gross Margin & Markup
I just returned from the Handcrafted Soapmakers Guild meeting in Miami Florida and boy did I learn a lot! It was wonderful to learn about the chemistry of soap making and especially watching Kayla make melt and pour soap base from scratch, but most of all I was thrilled to meet and learn about our customers. Words like passionate, artistic, committed and creative all come to mind. For so many of you it is almost a calling, making these products.

Essential Wholesale present part 2 of the Facial Cleanser, I hope you enjoyed last weeks. Here are some more great product reviews. Enjoy!

Equalizer Facial Crème Cleanser-
Reviewer: Patty Duke from Huntington Beach, CA United States First of all, I have Rosacea (bad) and most cleansers leave me with a moisture-balance problem. Dry on the outside, oily just waiting to clog up in the pores. Boy, was I surprised. I used it (confidently) when I was going to a baby shower. My face looked great, I was not broken out, and my skin looked plump and younger. Now I'm into it. Stocking up for me
