DISCOVERY CHANNEL ANNOUNCES TWO KEY APPOINTMENTS: KEVIN MOHS VICE PRESIDENT, PRODUCTION AND WAYNE SAMPSON, DIRECTOR, DEVELOPMENT & PRODUCTION 

(Silver Spring, Md.) –- Discovery Channel has appointed Kevin Mohs as Vice President of Production and Wayne Sampson as Director of Development and Production.  The positions create strong anchors in both the network’s home base headquarters and its West Coast operations.  

“Kevin and Wayne both bring an immense amount of skill and talent to Discovery.  These additions underscore our focus on continuing our strong track record of attracting compelling and unique talent, new and provocative genres and distinctive, quality content to the network,” said Gena McCarthy, Senior Vice President, Production and Development of Discovery Channel.

Mohs is charged with managing content and production of all cross-platform programs for the network, with an emphasis on specials and returning series.  Mohs will lead a strong team of Discovery executive producers to ensure brand definitional series and specials.  He will also work closely with marketing, communications and advertising sales to maximize all cross network opportunities.  Mohs will report to McCarthy.

Taught by the Example

My dad has an extreme fear of heights.  His fear is pretty intense and yet it never stopped him from going to great heights.  Despite his fear we climbed mountains, steeples and bell towers all over Europe, the leaning tower of Pisa, and just about every tall building with staircases to a view point that we came across in our travels.  His fear gripped him as he sometimes crawled the final steps of his journey.  His voice quivered as he called my brother and I back from the edge.  Yet he never made us step fully away from the edge, just far enough back to be in the safety zone. 

           

I remember standing on a tiny ledge with a railing that was only as high as our knee tops to get a better view of the art work in a Cathedral in Italy.  My Dad had plastered his body against the wall and was moving inch by inch around the ceiling ledge with us (somehow I doubt in the age of lawsuits that the same ledge is open to the public now.)  He was consumed with fear and yet he refused to miss the opportunity.  His discomfort was evident to everyone around him but he carried on.

Employee of the month was announced at Essential Wholesale for July many weeks ago.  We have been so buried in the lab that we haven't had a chance to do a blog announcing the July Employee of the month.

Link to Check if Your Claims are Making Your Cosmetic a Drug

If you sell cosmetics, aromatherapy, herbal, soap or personal care products make sure that you check out the FDA Status of OTC Rulemaking page.  The page contains an ABC list of drug and therapeutic categories that will have you determine if you are making any claims that make your product a OTC drug.  Also the monographs listed under each category will help you determine if you are using ingredients that automatically make your cosmetic a drug no matter what your claims are.  For instance if you are using Octoyl methoxycinnamate even if you don't make a sunscreen claim your product is an OTC drug. 

  

To use this link look up the claims or purpose you have in mind for your product and see if their is a monograph attached to that catagory.  Don't make the mistake of using ingredients or making claims that turn your cosmetic into an OTC (Over-The-Counter) Drug.

Cadeac and Meunier at the Institut Pasteur in Paris found that the micro-organisms of glanders and yellow fever were easily destroyed by the essential oils of cinnamon, thyme, French geranium, Indian verbena, lavender, patchouli, angelica, juniper, sandalwood, and cedarwood in 1888.  Further study showed that bacteria in the air, walls, and on humans were killed within minutes to hours by the evaporation of cinnamon, cloves, verbena, lavender, patchouli, angelica, juniper, sandalwood, cedarwood, thyme, lemon, pine, wormwood and the extracts of jasmine and tuberose.

Emotion and Reason Often Have a Communication Breakdown

I’ve noticed that the next step you need to take in anything can be smack dab in front of your face.  It can be lighted, blinking, and everyone is pointing to it and yet until you are ready to see it you can walk in circles wondering what to do next.  An outsider can see that next step, some of your friends and family can see it, and yet when you are too close to it and emotionally tied up in things you literally don’t know what to do next.  And then suddenly, when you are ready, the connection between your heart and mind links and what you need to do becomes critically clear. 

      

It isn’t like you didn’t know before you got in the situation what to do if ever confronted with that dilemma.  And you certainly could help a friend in crisis to find the very next step.  But you yourself in the midst of crisis can lose the ability to be your own advisor.  When suddenly you reach your “ah ha” moment you wonder why you didn’t see it before.  I think sometimes we get in the way of ourselves.  You can get emotionally wrapped around a crisis, or pride gets in the way, or maybe you just become a deer in the headlights too surprised to react.

Cyril Bald is credited with having written or dictated the oldest surviving English manuscript of botanical medicine known as the Saxon Leech Book of Bald written between 900 and 950 A.D.  The text describes 500 plants, their use and properties.  “Leech” is old English for “healer”. 

Dr. Robert Barron at Purdue University, Lafayette, Indiana, confirmed that aromas in the workplace affect the efficiency with which people perform tasks.  He confirmed that workers feel in a better mood and project a more positive frame of mind, and also that they actually think more clearly and intuitively.
