Interview With the Organic Beauty Expert

I love working with cool, hip beauty people. When I come across one that I think is a standout person that you should know, I just have to tell you about it. Andrea Kane, also known as the Organic Beauty Expert, is a cool, hip beauty chick.  She has a unique perspective on all things beauty. One look at her blog and you'll see why.

Andrea took some time from her busy day chasing two children and reviewing all the beauty products in the universe to tell me a little about herself and her philosophy.

Kayla: Tell me about you.

Andrea: I'm an entrepreneur, educator, blogger, perfumer, massage therapist, wife and mom. The new millennium multi-tasker!

Kayla: How did you get involved in the beauty business?

Andrea: I fell into because I couldn't find natural products for my multi-racial daughter's hair. I read some books, bought some ingredients and whipped up a line and a company. From there I started consulting and teaching. I had the business for five years, dismissed sale offers and started the blog.

Kayla: When and how did you get interested in organic beauty?

Andrea: I was simply interested in products with less chemicals. After living in Italy for three years, I was amazed that people could create: lotions, soaps, shampoos, etc. I was a total city girl in my thoughts: products made by machines arriving at the stores. Learning that we can make our own products got me interested in ingredients, which got me interested in what those ingredients can do. I am still learning as everyday brings more information, contradiction and discoveries.

Kayla: You have been in the green beauty industry a long time. What do you see as the future for this industry?

Andrea: Hard to say. So many are pushing certification, lawsuits over terminology, private groups with their standards. For me, it's about the customers. Honesty is key. Rhetoric is out. What I see is that beauty may have to get to the point where marketing and reality may have to merge. And that seems to be the hardest lesson learned.

Kayla: We have a long history together. What do you believe we have in common?

Andrea: I believe we share a desire to educate. More than 800 new products a year all touting that their the best Consumers just want to know if a product fits their budget, will work for them, whether they will have any adverse side effects.

So we share being honest... truth uncensored. Like the beauty products we like.
